POLITICO: Fiery Film: Los Angeles County public safety unions release new documentary
"A quartet of Los Angeles County public safety unions is releasing a new documentary about the region’s devastating January wildfires, a 35-minute compilation of never-released video — including body-cam footage — and testimonials from union members who were on the ground.

The film’s debut comes as the four unions — the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs, Los Angeles County Firefighters Local 1014, Los Angeles County Professional Peace Officers Association and Los Angeles County Lifeguards Association — are currently in contract negotiations with the county, with a major sticking point being the lack of cost of living increases.

The documentary avoids explicit politicking, choosing instead to focus on the harrowing behind-the-scenes recollections, but it does include pointed references to staffing shortages and strained resources."

LA TIMES: Endorsement: Yes on Measure E to update emergency services for some L.A. County areas
"No one enjoys paying more taxes. But this one pays for essential fire protection to properties in the district. And perhaps more important, it would allow the county Fire Department to save more lives by responding faster and with better paramedic services to treat grave injuries sustained (for example) in car collisions or natural disasters such as earthquakes and wildfires.

The Times recommends a yes vote on Measure E."

More than 200 people – firefighters and their families – gathered to play games, eat barbecue, and enjoy each other’s company as they honored the memory of their fallen friend and brother, Firefighter Specialist Tory Carlon.

“Tory was a family man. That was his No. 1 priority. And so, for us to be able to do this and kind of reemphasize how important family is to us, I think is another great way to honor him,” said Jake Windell, a firefighter/paramedic at Station 107 in Canyon Country.

“LA County sent 450 fire engines to the Woolsey fire while continuing to staff the rest of the county—raising the question of how firefighters in California can work any harder to save lives given the dire projections based on drier forests and drier weather. LA County Assistant Chief Eleni Pappas, 50, noting rising firefighter fatalities said that firefighters aren’t just dying in the increasingly hazardous field. In 2017, more U.S. firefighters died from suicides than in the line of duty. ‘We are on a precipice,’ she said."
